Alphina Towers is an alternative universe role play based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. This time, set three years after the fall of Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, this site follows the story of students attending the newly established institution of further education for wizards and witches, Alphina College. [b]Character Information
Name: Aurora Winderson-Edelstone (Her parents are big on equal partnership.) Date of Birth/Age: 17 born sometime during the winter solstice. Her parents are not exactly sure when as they had thrown out their calendar on the basis of one of their many conspiracy theories. Gender: Female Blood Type: Half blood School Previously Attended: Hogwarts Special Abilities/Extras: She can Apparate and produce a swan pantronus. She still working on occlumency though.
Physical Attributes: I’ll be using Emma Lung for my avatar or what ever you want to call those pictures.
Aurora has a rather wild yet kind look about her, much like a wood nymph in Greek mythology. She has straight blonde hair when she brushes it for longer than a minute. Most of time however her hair is wavy and slightly tangled hair. Sometimes people might find twigs and leaves in her hair but that all depends on if she decides to sleep outside or not.
Her finger nails are strangely manicured for someone with such zest for the outdoors. It has always surprised people how she could have such clean nails when her favourite past time is digging for tree roots to use in her experimental health elixirs. Although it’s not to say that her finger nails are miraculously unblemished, she has just managed to manipulate a repellent charm to a miniscule scale so she never has to wash under her finger nails. Otherwise she is not all that interested in personal grooming. Although she is definitely not one of those unwashed hippies. She get's enough of them at home.
Aurora has rather small feet for someone of such average height. This makes it exceedingly hard to find shoes that fit her. Luckily this does not worry her in the least as she barely wears shoes anyway, unless of course she is force to do so. Even then as soon as the person who has demanded she wears shoes her has left, she will instantly remove the footwear. In times when foot wear is absolutely compulsory, she would always choose sandal
Aurora’s favourite physical attribute is her eyes. Her eyes are a light hazel colour that seem to have there own sort of twinkle about them. This is what Aurora loves about her eyes, they’re just so shiny!
Personality:
Aurora is a free spirit. She can’t stand being in any sort of structured environment. It surprised most people who are close to her that she had in fact chosen to study at tertiary level. She did not decide to attend Alphina Towers purely for educational purposes. She chose tertiary education to find other like minded wizards and witches, who agree that the magic society needs a drastic change from an institutionalized structure to a Bohemian inspired democracy. Yes Aurora is some what of a hippy. The other reason for choosing tertiary education was that people would hardly take her seriously with out it.
As Aurora is so unconventional, it only makes sense that she would be deathly afraid of conforming to society. She often has nightmares of being caught in a corporate position; these became more frequent when she decided to attend Alphina Towers. She also has quite acute claustrophobia she never becomes quite use to living in doors despite England’s climate. She often sits close to a window or a door when in class and she absolutely refuses to close her bedroom door for anything. In fact if Aurora had been found to close her door, it would be an instant sign that something was deeply affecting her.
Aurora has a real zest for life. In fact her favourite quote about life is “Don’t take life to seriously you’ll never get out alive.” This is exactly how Aurora lives. She can’t stand people who are too serious about things. Then again Aurora does like a challenge and if she can just change the mind of one uptight person a week she would be the happiest hippy around. She is also extremely extroverted to the point of being unusually friendly, even to people she knew didn’t like her very much. She can be a little to free loving when it comes to boyfriend relationships. She tends be the first person to let down her defences.
She is also a rather peaceful girl. She loves nothing more than sitting in the great outdoors meditating. It’s something she did regularly along with other forms of meditation such as Tai Chi and yoga. For other times that do not involve these practices, she can be a little to intense about any issue in the natural world. Much like the rest of her family Aurora is a vegetarian.
Aurora has a good head on her shoulder but she seldom uses it outside the classroom. It’s not that she pretends to be dumb; she just has an abstract way of thinking that often comes across as being flaky. In her days at Hogwarts, when she was a Ravenclaw, the Slytherin girls cruelly referred to her as “The Ditsy Raven”. This however did not get the result the Slytherin girls were hoping for as every time someone muttered “Ditsy Raven” Aurora would be instantly reminded of the old nursery rhyme of the black birds baked in a pie and then that rhyme would remind her of the patty cake rhyme, which resulted in a trip down to Hagrid’s pumpkin patch for a bit of stolen vegetarian eating (she didn’t really steal pumpkins. Hagrid was pleased someone liked his home grown pumpkins. He just didn’t know who).
Family:
Aurora is one of the many middle children in her family. Aurora has approximately three brothers and four sisters. It’s often hard to tell how many siblings Aurora has as they keep moving. The names of Aurora’s siblings are Isaac aged 28, Athena aged 26, Forest aged 24, Silkie aged 22, Aurora 17, Rhapsody 15, Caesar 13, and Elka aged 11. Yes there’s a lot of love in this family. Aurora’s mother and father have never married as they believed it was just the government’s way of controlling the people. Aurora’s mother and father had a commitment ceremony instead. They have had a great impact on Aurora’s anti-conformist ideas.
Aurora’s mother is a muggle who is about as Bohemian as they come and her father is an anti-conforming wizard.
Family Reputation: The Winderson-Eldelstone's have a reputation of being a too little free loving and political.
History & Background:
Aurora was born at home on the family farm in a very small but rather proud witch village outside Sussex. Once again her parents scepticism of Government policy caused there mother to give birth to every single child at home. At that time Aurora only had five siblings making the house rather hectic. Much like the rest of the Winderson clan, Aurora grew to be a tree hugging free thinking hippy.
Finally six years after Auroras birth her mother gave birth to the family’s last child Elka. Aurora didn’t like Elka at first as Elka cried a lot of the time and kept everyone up. This was, were Aurora developed the habit of sleeping outdoors, to escape her sisters incessant screaming. Elka continued to scream for almost a year until around Aurora’s seventh birthday. Everyone in the family were attempting to sing happy birthday over one of Elka rather loud bellow matches until Aurora couldn’t take it anymore, she screamed at her sister to shut up. It was here that Elka continued to scream yet no sound left her mouth. This was the time when her parents discovered that she much like the rest of her siblings had magical powers.
Unfortunately when Aurora was fourteen her family were shocked to find that the youngest Elka was in fact a squib. It was even more unfortunate that the people in the village in which they lived in were looking for any excuse to shun the family. For slightly unfair reasons involving the Eldest Isaac and a rather “special” plant he had been growing near the local primary school. As soon as the people of the village heard a whisper that Elka was a squib the villagers demanded that Aurora’s family leave their village before the squib rubs off on the other children.
The family was forced to pack up and move to a town where there youngest would not be frowned upon. They had tried living in the magic world so now the mother thought it was time to try out a bit of old fashion muggle living. She always reasoned that it might be easier for Elka if she lived with people who just like her. Not that Aurora’s family ever resented Elka for being a squib; they just thought it would be easier for Elka if her family were the odd balls this time instead of the other way round.
Although living like muggles was hard for a family that had spent so much time being in the magic world. Even Aurora’s mother was a little rusty when it came to the use of muggle appliances. Living as muggles was not all that bad after the family had readjusted, in fact Aurora found that she fit just as well in the muggle world as she did in the magic.
Aurora graduated from Hogwarts being in the top five of her class in almost every subject. She never told any one about her achievement though, as very little people saw her as an academic and she liked to keep it that way. After all top of the class is not something people usually associate with a hippie, bohemians’ maybe but not hippies.
Wand Type, Length & Core: Holly, 12 ¼ inches, unicorn core. She would have preferred that her wand was made from soy beans and didn’t involve “animal cruelty” alas such a wand has not been invented.
Pets: A slightly Psychotic stray cat called Lulu that has a habit of bitting its own tail. Aurora thinks Lulu is just performing a break dance move when Lulu starts biting, as in the cats attempt to decapitates it self, it often looks as if it is somersaulting or doing some strange tyre movement.
Courses:
Aurora has taken three earth and soul friendly subjects as she would call them and one political activist orientated subject. These courses are Herbology, Care of Magical Creature, Potions and Magical Medicine and Magical Law.
Sample Post:
Aurora sat down on the Cambridge park bench, she was bored. She looked at her feet, her left sandal was missing. For a minute Aurora thought she must have walked out of her room with only one sandal on. It sounded like something she would do. Luckily however she spied the tattered object approximately a meter away. Aurora wrinkled her nose with annoyance. She had two options either pick up the other sandal and replace it on her unusual small foot or do the complete opposite. Aurora smiled cheekily and kicked off her other sandal. She never liked shoes anyway. “Mummy! That strange lady’s leg just jerked up. Do you think something’s wrong with her head?” Shouted a young boy pointing directly at Aurora. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” Aurora winked cheekily at the boy only wanting to be friendly. This obviously was not wise as the boy ran off towards his mother petrified. Why were children so frightened of friendly people these days?
After a while Aurora became quite aware of how cold her feet were. She drew them up under her peasant skirt. She was now sitting Indian style on the park bench, in attempt to warm them. She soon noted that her sitting position was very close to the lotus position in meditation. “Meditation” she mused “That’s a good idea.” She tried to meditate as she usually did in times were there wasn’t much to do, but it was hopeless all the sounds of the city continued to break into her mind that she was supposed to be emptying. She tried again this time humming to block the busy street with her own white noise. She began to hear foot steps, they were crushing the grass. Aurora shut her eyes more tightly. The foot steps were coming closer. Aurora hummed even louder hoping the foot steps would leave her in peace. The footsteps stoped somewhere in front of her, she opened one eye lid curiously. There was a boy about her age standing in front of her. He was now holding her shoes. “Excuse me.” Aurora smiled politely. “It appears that you are in fact holding my shoes. I would much appreciate it if you replaced them were you found them and leave me to my attempt at inner oneness.” She hoped he wouldn’t run off her shoes. Her feet were cold.
A few grammatical errors here and there, but they're unnoticeable.
Congratulations Miss Winderson-Edelstone, welcome to Alphina College. Please, claim a dorm room, and feel free to walk around and find a nice place to do your meditation.
